Neighborhood Garden

As some of you may know, we had a community garden this past year.  We all pitched in seeds, labor and love to grow our own veggies.

The planting day was cold but the work went quickly with the help of a roto-tiller and Josh's bulging muscles!

We planted loads of stuff in our beds.  Beans, peas, broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, peppers, carrots, lettuce, brussles sprouts, onions, garlic, herbs...I think you get the picture! Nearly everyone got their hands dirty.

Our garden produced a whole lotta food this year! Several days of pruning tomato plants, pulling weeds, tying up peas were put in and each time we ventured in, we were amazed at how much everything was growing!

We were admittedly kind of wasteful in that we planted WAY too much lettuce, not the right kind of pea and too many tomatoes! I guess that is what the first year is all about though, figuring out what you like, want and will eat.  We loved having ready access to those fresh off the vine veggies though! So worth it.

It is now January and we still have onions and garlic from the garden as well as peppers that have been blackened and frozen in the skins.

I am super excited for this year....I suppose we need to get planning for the upcoming season!
