Fitness Goals

After spending too many years with too many pounds I've set some goals to shed the weight.  These aren't merely for losing weight though.  It's about adopting a healthier lifestyle to be a better role model for my kids, especially Cora.  I want her to know if she puts her mind to anything she can do it.  What makes me think this time is different and I'll stick to it? Accomplishing another long-time goal; natural child birth.  Being able to set a goal, work towards it and accomplish it is something I hadn't done in a very long time and I can't tell you how empowering it was for me!

So, here are my goals....

Train for a 7k using the Couch to 5k program.

Complete the Running of the Green Lucky 7k.  Because of some knee pain I am having, I will still be in the midst of my Couch to 5k training so I will not run this whole race but I will complete it!

Complete one 5k per month each month this year.  Likely many of them right here in Highlands Ranch via the Highlands Ranch Run Series!

All the while, train for a HALF MARATHON (yea, I know, it's BIG!)! One of my best friends from college, Melanie has become quite an athlete in the last few years and inspires me to no end.
Mel at a Tri-athalon! Hope you don't mind me using your pic on here, Mel :)
Melanie has participated in the Girlfriend's Half Marathon before and asked friends on Facebook if they'd like to join her this year.  I saw that as a great goal for myself and threw my hat in! Now, I am unable to register for the event until we get our taxes (hopefully by the end of February) and hopefully they won't have sold out (which they always do) but I am committed to participating!

I will work to lose 50 pounds this year.  I have a total weight loss goal of 61 pounds so that would be awesome but 50 pounds is more realistic.

One last goal for me is to learn to swim.  I can swim already but doing laps or other "serious" swimming I can't do.

I'll keep you all apprised of my goals as I work toward, reach and pass them.
