Douglas County Schools Fittin' It In 5k

Another notch in my 5k belt today with this fundraiser for our school district.  It was supposed to be rainy and cold but Mother Nature blessed us with just the cold.

It was a great course and so awesome to see so many kids out with their parents participating.

Right around mile 1 I rolled my ankle.  Stupid rock on the sidewalk and I was distracted thinking how good I was feeling.  Tears welled up in my eyes from the pain, I had to stop jogging and move off to the side for a few "is it ok" paces.  All I could think of was how the "old me" would have let this stop her.  I would have quit and turned back.  This caused more tears to well up because I knew that wouldn't be how this race would end.

Each of my races is a "wog".  I jog then walk, walk then jog doing as much jogging as possible.  So I took it easy for a bit to make sure there wasn't much pain and the more I used the ankle the better it felt and soon I couldn't feel pain so I started jogging again.  By the end of the race I had forgotten I rolled my ankle.

It probably helped that, yet again, Dave Price ran back for me.  A friend and across the street neighbor, Dave has run in two of the same 5k's as me and both those times has come back to "wog" with me to the finish.  So awesome to have someone do that so I am not finishing the race alone.  Thanks Dave!

Dave and I took a walk through the expo for some yummy snacks and water after the race.  I plan to do this one again next year.

Results:

Placed 311th out of 587 finishers in a time of 42:46 for a pace of 13:46 per mile.

Out of 352 women I finished 162nd. The winning time for women was 21:15.

For 30 to 39 year old women I was 49th out of 88 finishers. The winning time for my age and sex was 21:15.
